Anneli Jäätteenmäki: Commissioner Malmström has to clarify the state of TTIP

August 30, 2016

Tiedote suomeksi…

Vice-President of the European Parliament Anneli Jäätteenmäki (ALDE / Centre Party, Finland) demands a report of the state of play of the TTIP trade negotiations between the EU and US. – Commissioner Malmström should explain how the negotiations are proceeding, Jäätteenmäki comments.

French trade minister Matthias Fekl stated today that the negotiations are not politically supported in France. According to Fekl, France demands the suspension of negotiations. Sigmar Gabriel, the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, has also condemned the talks as a failure. Only yesterday, the European Commission assured that everything is proceeding normally.

– Commissioner Malmström has to clarify whether the negotiations have reached a dead end. Everything is clearly not in order, although the Commission claims the opposite, Vice-President Jäätteenmäki says.

– The level of ambition in TTIP has been set very high. Now it seems that the level is impossible to reach, Jäätteenmäki estimates.
